The 7 mistakes that waste tag slots (excerpt)

  1. Using all 20 slots on broad tags (Indie, Singleplayer, Action…) — the algorithm barely differentiates on them.
  2. Tagging aspirational genres — "it's kind of a roguelike." Players downvote wrong tags, which actively hurts positioning.
  3. Stacking near-duplicatesRoguelike + Roguelite + Procedural Generation reach the same browsers three times.
  4. Ignoring bridge tagsCozy, Atmospheric, Funny pull adjacent audiences cheaply.
  5. Never updating after launch — once player votes disagree with you, prune the downvoted ones.

FAQ

Are these real Steam tags?

Yes — all 111 are real Steam store tags. The reach/saturation numbers are heuristic opportunity estimates compiled for this tool (September 2026), not Valve data. They're directional: great for comparing tag choices, not gospel.

Why only 5 tags when Steam allows 20?

The top slots carry the most weight in discovery, so the tool optimizes the 5 highest-leverage picks. The guide walks you through filling the remaining 15 slots with accurate, specific descriptors.

How do I use the recommended tags?

Paste them into Steamworks (App Admin → Edit Store Page → Tags), most important first. Then re-check 30 days after launch: player votes will have reordered things, and the tool can fill around your locked-in community tags.

What format is the download?

A ZIP with the standalone optimizer (single HTML file, works offline), the 111-tag dataset as CSV, and the strategy guide in Markdown. No DRM, no expiry, unlimited projects.

Why Bitcoin only?

Card payments are coming soon — the button above is already in place. Bitcoin checkout is live right now: a fresh address per order, download unlocks automatically once the payment is seen on-chain.
